Handling Refunds with EnKash – Dashboard & API Guide

The Refunds feature on the EnKash platform allows you to reverse payments to customers efficiently and securely. Refunds are a critical part of the online payment ecosystem, used to handle failed transactions, cancellations, or customer initiated returns, ensuring trust and satisfaction.
This page provides a complete overview of how refunds work, types of refunds, key scenarios to consider, and how to initiate refunds using either the EnKash Dashboard or Refund APIs.

What Is a Refund?#

A refund is the reversal of a successful transaction, where funds are returned to the customer’s original payment source (e.g., Card, UPI, Bank Account).
Common scenarios for refunds:
Failed Transactions: Payment failed but the customer was still debited.
Order Cancellations: Customer cancels an order post-payment due to issues like defects, service delays, etc.

Key Points To Remember#

Refunds can be full or partial, based on the situation or customer request.
Refunds can only be initiated against successful transactions.
The processing time for refunds depends on the original payment method (e.g., UPI, card, net banking).
Refunds require a sufficient balance in your EnKash account.

Scenarios That Can Affect Refunds#

Inactive or Frozen Beneficiary Account
If the customer’s source account is inactive or frozen, the refund cannot be completed. In such cases, you'll need to:
Contact the customer.
Collect an alternate bank account or payment method.
Insufficient Recharge Account Balance
Refunds will fail if your EnKash recharge wallet does not have enough funds. Ensure your account is topped up to avoid refund delays.
